First three months of year heavy with divorce filings

Whatever the reason, research has shown that there is a huge 50% jump in Internet searches for terms related to dissolution of marriage, family law, or child custody, etc. from December to January. Statistics show that divorce filings increase in January through March, after the holidays are over. Valentine's Day being in February evidently does not act as a major deterrent, no matter how many flowers, boxes of candy, and greeting cards may be sold.

January has actually been given the moniker "divorce month." In some cases, people have made the decision to end their marriage before the holidays, but opted to wait until the festivities and family gatherings are over. Additionally, there may be financial considerations, such as waiting for a year-end holiday bonus to be received. Others may simply view the new year as an opportunity to make a new start in their lives and as a sign that time passes rapidly, so it is not good to linger in an unhappy situation. September, for some reason, is also a time when many think of or initiate a divorce.

The best way to approach divorce, of course, is not impulsively, but with carefully planning. Sitting down with an experienced divorce attorney to learn about your rights, obligations and options is a good first step to enable you to make informed decisions. There are practical, emotional, economic and tax consequences that must be considered. Divorce attorneys in Arizona have dealt with these issues many times under a variety of circumstances and have the answers to many questions that those who have not gone through a divorce may have.
