How Rapper Ludacris' Child Custody Case May Teach You A Lesson

Everyone has said or done something they later regret. For those of us in a child custody dispute, a regrettable action can have a harmful impact on our case. Rap artist Ludacris recently learned this lesson, but the evidence against him came from an unlikely place: the music studio.

Ludacris was in court fighting for custody of his 1-year-old daughter when the mother's attorney unexpectedly read the rapper's lyrics from a song named Dancin' Dirty. The song describes a sexual encounter that begins with Ludacris pouring a girl strong drinks before provocatively dancing with her.

The mother's lawyer asked Ludacris if the lyrics described date rape, a suggestion he promptly denied.

"I'm just talking about partying and having fun," Ludacris said.

"Would you like for (your daughter) to have this experience with a young man?" the attorney asked.

"When (she) becomes an adult, if she wants to have a good time, then that's her right as an adult," Ludacris stated.

Ludacris' lyrics do not appear to have had a disastrous impact on his child custody case - he went on to win primary custody - but the courtroom exchange proves that evidence can be gleaned from just about anywhere. Keep your social media use free from controversial remarks or ones that could be misinterpreted to make you look poorly or like an unfit parent.

Remember that no part of your life is immune from attacks during a child custody battle or divorce. Assume that anything you publicly do or say will be seen by the other party and his or her lawyer.
