We at DeShon Laraye Pullen PLC want to take a moment to say thank you and best wishes to a departing colleague and friend. Tawnia R. Wienke, one of our attorneys, has left the firm as of Aug. 17.

We are saddened to see Tawnia go. All of us at the firm love her, and she will be missed. At the same time, we are excited for Tawnia as she pursues a new opportunity.

Once again, it is time for us at DeShon Laraye Pullen PLC to announce our Employee of the Month for June. As a reminder, every month our staff votes for an Employee of the Month. The winner is a member of the firm who went above and beyond for our clients during the previous month.

This time, our Employee of the Month is Lisa Moreland, our New Client Development Specialist.

At DeShon Laraye Pullen PLC, we are committed to doing our part to end leukemia and lymphoma. These are types of cancer that begin in the bone marrow and lymphatic systems, respectively, and affect the blood. Though both forms of cancer are treatable in many cases, they can be fatal.

Our firm is honored to participate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Light The Night Walk for the greater Phoenix area. This year’s walk will take place on Nov. 5. By taking pledges from supporters, our firm and other walk participants raise money for research into potentially life-saving treatments.

Today is Independence Day in the U.S., a holiday that means several beloved traditions for most people, including us at DeShon Laraye Pullen PLC. Barbeques. Parades. And, perhaps most of all, fireworks.

No other American holiday is so closely associated with displays of loud, colorful fireworks displays exploding across the night sky. What started this American tradition of celebrating its independence from England with fireworks?

Believe it or not, the idea comes from one of the Founders behind the Declaration of Independence, and he thought it up before that revolutionary document was even finished.

Ashley B. Rahaman is one of our attorneys, and has been practicing law in Arizona since 2010. Among the reasons Ashley’s colleagues voted for her was for her mentorship of co-workers, her ability to handle a heavy workload, and the dedication she shows to her clients.

Staci Maret is a certified paralegal who works closely with DeShon L. Pullen. We are awarding her Genius of the Month for her work solving a problem at our firm keeping track of our employees’ continuing legal education (CLE) attendance.

Congratulations to Ashley and Staci for their awards! They are terrific examples of the type of people who work at our firm.

Since Memorial Day became a national holiday in 1971, workers and students across the U.S. have enjoyed long Memorial Day weekends. To many, the holiday has become the starting whistle signifying the much-awaited summer.

Happy Memorial Day. Right?

For those who fully understand and take a moment to really think about Memorial Day, it might sound somewhat off to hear “Happy Memorial Day.” After all, the holiday wouldn’t exist without great loss. Today our country honors the men and women who have lost their lives protecting this country and the freedoms we enjoy.

International Women’s Day is today, March 8.

In honor of the day, Google – as it almost always does – replaced its logo with a “doodle” that represents the subject. Today the doodle features a representation of women with various hopes and dreams – in thought bubbles, you see a microscope, books, musical notes, paintbrushes, and a computer, among other things.

Every child deserves to be raised in a safe, nurturing, loving home. At DeShon Laraye Pullen PLC, we appreciate the hard work and dedication of good parents throughout Arizona.

Since Sunday is Mother’s Day, today we will focus on all the wonderful moms in our lives.

According to Wikipedia, Mother’s Day is a relatively new holiday. Its roots go back to 1905, when a West Virginia woman’s mother died. The woman, Anna Jarvis, began campaigning to create an official American Mother’s Day holiday, which Jarvis celebrated for the first time in 1908.

Our firm’s latest hire lacks a deep knowledge of family law in Arizona. Nor can she write a legal brief, or even answer the phone. But what she lacks in traditional law firm skills, she more than makes up for in eagerness and team spirit.

DeShon Laraye Pullen PLC is proud to introduce Tasia “Sugar,” a Chow Chow and our official office mascot. Known affectionately as “Shoogs,” she was born on Jan. 31, so she’s still just a puppy, but she’s quickly learning on the job.
